Give "thanks"
- Suzie Bullion, Executive Editor

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It provides us the perfect reason to celebrate – giving thanks. Really, what’s not to love about Thanksgiving? It’s not commercialized, there are no presents to buy, and the only stress for most is figuring out who is bringing what dish.
My family has its Thanksgiving traditions. For instance, when my Grandma Berg was alive she always brought her famous cranberry salad that to this day no one has mastered. Though Dutch, my Grandma Hogan (maiden name Van Dam) made lefse like no other. (Ironically, lefse is a Norwegian flatbread made of potatoes, cream and flour.) My mom is known for her stuffing and raisin-cream pie and, now, each Thanksgiving I’m asked to make “my” sweet potatoes.
Our traditions, including the foods we eat, laughing, watching football,
playing cards and board games, doing the dishes together and taking a long walk to make room for leftovers makes Thanksgiving a “pure” holiday for me. It’s a holiday full of what a holiday should be full of – family, friends and giving thanks for our blessings.
While experts debate the state of our country, the world and all of its economic shortfalls, Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what we do have. Whether it’s one’s health or the love of one person or many, there is reason to give thanks.
